Shave Horse

First effort at a bodger's bench. Might end up usable but has serious issues.

The back legs are too close under the seat so not possible to sit all the way back without tipping. Clearly adding to the seat will not work.

Work piece will be too close to the body to get a long shave. This is because the seat and clamp are too close.

Far end is longer than needed. Helps stability a bit. But silly looking.

Foot pedal too far away. The crook was not sharp enough. Can be improved by adding a block or bar through.

Upper clamp too long which makes the close seat worse.

Upper clamp too twisted to shorten much.

Possible improvements:

Shorten the upper clamp as much as will work.

Flatten the clamp surfaces for a better grip.

Add a wider seat for comfort. Just a bit wider.

When geometry set, drill a pivot hole and add a bolt.

Add a foot block to being it closer.

For next time:

Find a fork that has several feet of tree above.

Pick a crook as bent as possible.

Watch the geometry when carving the crook.

Legs well behind the seat.

Three legs works well. But make the front leg straight.
