DNF Shortcuts

Here are most of the dnf shortcuts:

  • in install
  • up upgrade
  • up-min upgrade-minimal
  • rm erase
  • se search
  • dg downgrade
  • grp group
  • rei reinstall
  • dsync distro sync
That's about it.

Comments and Motivation

So I read that the author of the dnf fork of yum included command shortcuts. I thought "Excellent, just my thing". Google failed me. The cli documentation did not mention them, much less list them. So hidden I only found them from the source. So here is a list to get into google maybe. Or just for me...whatever.
Many sites state that dnf is for "dandified yum". The author of the dnf fork of yum, Ales Kozumplik, stated in so many words that it stands for nothing. So just a backronym.
The list is short as most dnf commands have no short form. I have only listed the shortest of each. Why learn more than one?
These should not be confused with either the alias command of dnf or command competion which is also available.
These have not been tested at all. I am new to dnf. If your version is newer or older you may find more or that some of these have been removed. I am willing to fix this list on request. Mail is my name with dot at sheehangreen.ca. It would be better if they were in the fedora cli docs...

Winners and Losers

None of the cuttings rooted. More effort needed. But the maple from Danny looks happy.

Saturday, March 9, 2019

It has been winter here, much like all of Canada in February. But this weekend we are starting to see the spring come out again. Snowdrops have been out beween all the snowfalls. The snow blower saw lots of use up to about ten days ago. Now the remnants of snow are harder to find. Should get above ten degrees this weekend both days. I still have 22 sticks in the ground. None have budded of course. Many are canted at strange angles. Some may have been pulled out and stuck back into the soil. Those would be pretty dead.

The pruning is done and one dormant spray. The prune plum has a dead core on the largest branch pruned. So it is near the end of it's life.

Apple hedge

Two weeks ago I planted 26 cuttings from our apple trees around the front.
So far none have sprouted, good. Because starting tomorrow it will be very cold and possibly snowy.

One is now missing and a couple more have been knocked at an angle. The daytime highs have not reached ten celcius yet.

The scions are Bramleys Seedling, Cortland, Gravenstein, Golden Russet, and Transparent.

The pear is budding early but the apples are dormant.

We shall see.
